Who is the most OVER rated MMA fighter?

Johnny!!! asked:

Earlier I saw a question asking who is the most underrated so now I am asking who is the most over rated? For me its either Lyoto Machida or Brock Lesnar. These two don’t have as many fights as say Anderson Silva or even Fedor and people are already saying that they are Pound for Pound the best? What makes a fighter the P4P best is his ability to win a championship and defend it. Now that these two are Champs they will be facing the best in the world. Only then will you know whether they are P4P worthy!

Brock Lesnar would be first. Lyoto Machida is good because he’s humble. I believe he’s talked about as much as he should be.

Brock Lesnar. He has a 4-1 record and people talk about him like he’s the best ever.

Machida isn’t overrated at all. He barely gets touched in his fights and he is undefeated. He’s beaten Rich Franklin, BJ Penn, Tito Ortiz, and Rashad Evans.

I feel there are a few overrated fighters in MMA right now. Starting off with the UFC, I would have to go with:

Kimbo Slice – This is the most obvious because of the level of discussion around him from YouTube videos, EliteXC main events and now TUF season 10. Most commercials about TUF you rarely see the fighters and they try to hype the coaches, this is the only time I have seen them show a fighter (Kimbo) over and over in a commercial. I give the man the respect he deserves… at least he is doing it the right way!

Houston Alexander – He has a punches chance and comes in swinging giving the mainstream fans exactly what they want. He is exciting and you know you are going to see a first round knockout… either him or his opponent. I do like him; I think he has a lot of charisma. I just think he is overrated because they should be putting him on the under card so that he can get more experience before fighting ‘gatekeeper’ fighters.

Michael Bisping – Does this really need an explanation? Just is case it does here you go. Who has he fought to earn the recognition that people give him? Here is the list of people he has beaten: Josh Haynes, Eric Schafer, Elvis Sinosic, Matt Hamill (we know who really won that fight), Charles McCarthy, Jason Day and Chris Leben. Leben is the only person that is note worthy and it went to decision. He is the face of the UK and that is the only reason he was a coach on TUF! Why was he a coach? He had not earned enough respect to have such a prestigious title bestow on him. The past TUF coaches have been: Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, Matt Hughes (2), Rich Franklin, Tito Ortiz, Ken Shamrock, Jens Pulver, BJ Penn, Matt Serra, Quinton Jackson, Forrest Griffin, Antonio Nogueira, Frank Mir and Dan Henderson. How the heck does Michael Bisping get the right to be a coach when the level of coaches have been those to have proven themselves; yet because the UFC doesn’t have enough British fighters they just hype Bisping up to take that spot. The UFC stated that if Bisping won he would have gotten a title shot against Anderson Silva, but when Henderson destroyed Bisping the UFC wasn’t sure if they were going to give Henderson the title shot.

In promotions outside of the UFC, I would have to go with:

Fedor Emelianenko – Yes, I said it! Fedor was the best heavyweight fighter in all of MMA… 4 years ago! Don’t even start with the whole Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski conversation; we all know they are past their prime and were HW Champions at a time that even Dana White was making fun of his own division depth. Since 2006, Fedor has fought Shinya Aoki (a lightweight, seriously!), Andrei Arlovski (Fedor was getting destroyed until he got the lucky punch), Tim Sylvia (do I really need to explain it!), Hong Man Choi (the guy is a giant kickboxer that is why he got sub’d), Matt Lindland (a middleweight), Mark Hunt (he is 5 – 6 and has no ground defense) and finally, Mark Coleman (a light heavyweight fighter who is past his prime). Now he goes to Strikeforce to fight subpar fighters and hides from a very lucative contract and fighting the best in the world. Not saying he isn’t good… he is! He is a top 10 heavyweight and he was the best at one time. But much like Chuck Liddell was king and is now done… so is Fedor!

Brett Rogers – I like this guy but he is ranked the 7th best Heavyweight fighter because he is 8 – 0 knocking everyone out in the first round. Sorry, he hasn’t fought enough top level competition for me to agree with that. If he beats Fedor Emelianenko in their schedule fight soon (oh, please Rogers beat him) I will totally agree with Rogers being a top 10 figher

Definately Kenny Florian. Serisously, Joe Rogan is such a douchebag I always hated hearing him commentate. He overplays everything that Kenny does in a fight(well actually most fighters), but hes always yelling, trying to make florian sound more exciting than it is. Hes just an all around dousche, and so is Kenny.

First off I have to respectfully disagree with you on Brock Lesnar. I believe he is the real deal.
Lyoto Machida hasn’t really had that many fights and almost lost to Tito Ortiz. He almost caught Lyoto in that triangle choke. However, Lyoto does have a belt around his waist that says he’s the best in the world at 205lbs. I don’t see anyone at 205 taking the belt from him any time soon. I don’t know if he’s overrated, but I do agree he hasn’t been properly tested.

Now to your question: People are all over Keith Jardine and Joe Stevenson’s nuts for some reason. I haven’t seen them beat anybody of any note. They keep trying to pass them off as contenders, but I think they’ve both lost their last three fights.

I hate to say this, but I’m also going to go with Feydor. He hasn’t beaten anybody in their prime and comes up with excuse after excuse to not fight in the UFC. His biggest competition in Pride was Mirko CroCop, and you see how well HE’S doing in the UFC. He’s not getting any younger and if he were to fight in the UFC, I think Frank Mir, Gabriel Gonzaga, or old ass Randy Coutoure would give him a rude welcome into the UFC. Brock would destroy him. He ain’t overrated at all.

Lyoto has earned his spot. he beat undefeated Thiago Silva (13-0) undefeated Rashad Evans (18-0) undefeated Rich Franklin (12-0) and undefeated Stephan Bonnar (3-0) and undefeated David Heath (7-0) thats 53-0 all together he’s beaten. i give him his due.

ANDERSON HOWEVER, pisses me off. he is good il give him that but his ground game isn’t as good as Maia’s and we’ll see that after Maia chokes out Marquardt.

    Fedor, period.

  10. Jack Says:

IMO….I would have to say Clay Guida. He stays really busy, but doesn’t inflict serious damage to opponent or compose a threat.
    runner-up: Machida
    Cheers!!

  11. Hailey Says:

Machida has KO’d too many opponents to be overrated. Fedor is probably overrated now because many ASSUME that he can still beat anyone. However, until he can prove it, I think he is overrated.

  12. Abigail Says:

Lesnar, Machida, and Fedor are overated? Uh, no?

If you want overated look at Kimbo Slice. I’m so sick of seeing that gay Kimbo comercial everytime I watch Unleashed.

Jon Fitch is super overrated. He is the king of lay pray. The only times he ever finishes anyone is by accident. I seriously hate having to sit through one of his fights. He is definitely the most boring fighter in the UFC. The Grinder? fuck seriously?
Kenny Florian is also overrated. BJ Penn destroyed him and Diego would tear him up again if they get a chance to fight.
Brandon Vera is another guy who is way overrated. He hasn’t had any real wins since he has come back to the UFC and yet people still think he is awesome. He couldn’t even finish Reese Andy. That’s just sad.

BROCK IS A UFC CHAMPION WHO HAS NOT BEEN TESTED BY A REAL FIGHTER

  15. Jessica Says:

    Brayden

Randy Couture is overrated. There are people who still think he’s the greatest fighter in the world right now.

  16. Autumn Says:

ha ha fedor is defiantly, if he is the best why doesn’t he test his skill in the ufc against the best fighters? that should be his priority i don’t know how it isn’t. so i say fedor is the most overrated. a lot of fedor nuthuggers out there
