When are MMA fans going to realize that professional boxing is superior?
Andrus asked:
MMA fighters are not the best fighters in the world, just look at their records, and look at boxer’s record. Who is a good MMA fighter? Randy Couture? Look at all of the loses he has. MM fighters aren’t the best kickboxers, wrestlers, etc… They have to learn different disciplines, which means they can’t stick with one and master it like. Professional boxers are used to fast striking. Even the fastest striker in MMA won’t do anything to Mayweather, he’s too quick. What can a MMA fighter do to a boxer like Iron Mike Tyson? Leg kicks? Take down? Listen, put any heavy weight against Tyson, ANY, and he will get knocked out. It will only take 1 hard punch for Tyson to win the fight, trust me. Cro Cop is considered one of the best, but guess what? A kickboxer got a nice body shot on Cro Cop, and it hurt so much that he couldn’t continue the fight. Just imagine what Tyson would do to him. Even a take down is too risky to take if you are going against Tyson. He will see it coming and KNOCKOUT

yeah you are right thats why MMA has been on the rise in popularity and boxing has been in decline for years. The last relevant heavyweight boxer was who Tyson? maybe Lennox Lewis? the other weight classes the guys are toothpicks. The reason why boxers records are so much better than MMA is because whose left in boxing? a bunch of has beens and never was. Listen i dont follow either sport closely but you got to be kidding me with your statement

The day a Boxer realized that they where big padded gloved to cover their faces and have to follow rules that do not allow certain blows and hits.
The day you fight as the pugilist of old did, then you may have a chance against a MMA. Most Pro boxers are athletes not street scrappers or gang busters.
They would have no chance simple as that. Ever seen FEARLESS with Jet LI? That is based on a true story!! He kicked EVERYONES but except that one Japanese swordsman which was a close fight and he still won!
When a boxer can use his legs too and grapple then I say they have a chance, striking with fists only keeps you limited and I HAVE NEVER personally lost to a boxer ever, pro or amateur and I have fought both as a former member of TEAM USA MA!
I DO LOVE BOXING though, it is a great art too. They are simply too different methods and in the end, it will be the better fighter not the style that wins. Yeah a boxer will win some times as will the MMA. Thats what most are missing. It is how well the person learned and applies what they learned in reality and remains the smarter fighter!

In a boxing match I think you are right and the boxer probably wins. In a MMA fight a boxer would have to fight on the ground outside of their element.
Like fedor emelianenko said when asked about fighting Mike Tyson, my approach would be to take him off his feet and submit him.
In MMA you can take many different approaches. Boxing is kind of one dementional. Plus you mention Cro Cop and kickboxing. Look at what Cro Cop has done to his oppenents in MMA and Kickboxing with his legs.

do you really think a real fight that boxers would always beat MM artists, do you know boxers cant defend a takedown, cant defend kicks or submissions, they also have no way of stopping a ground and pound attack, I dont think either sport is superior, boxing is boxing and MMA is MMA im just stating in a real fight about 80% of them go to the ground and what good is boxing when your on your back.

Being a good boxer is VERY difficult. No doubt about it.
Their two diffent sports that have striking in common.
Could a great boxer kick butt in MMA – maybe, it would on who their fighting I suppose. But they aren’t used to being kicked or defend against being taken down.

A boxer’s upright stance won’t last for 30 seconds against a thai boxer. After 6 cut kicks targeted to the same exact spot Tyson will freak out and bite the other guy’s ear off. Also, I doubt Tyson could knock out someone with a solid jiu jitsu game like dean lister, jeremy horn or especially anderson silva (you cant throw a straight right when someone’s mounted on you)

I would have liked to see Tyson in MMA 10 years ago, now he would get worked over. Boxing is only one aspect of mma, and if you are taken down as a boxer you are in serious trouble. Boxers typically build up their records fighting cans for the first few years, that’s why they all have 25-30 wins or more. Once a top level mixed martial artist strings together 10 wins he will enter a top show.
MMA is the closest thing to an actual fight, and the fighters are the best in the world.
Boxing- has good athletes, but in a real fight can be taken down. Watch what Floyd Mayweather says on Iron Ring.

I don’t think that day will come, bro. Sorry. Under MMA rules, a pure boxer’s only chance is that – chance. A lucky shot, against takedowns so fast you end up on your back before your mind registers what happened.
The classic Royce Gracie open challenge for Mike Tyson was never accepted. The Gracie Challenge stood undefeated for decades in Brazil.
History repeats itself, and teaches lessons based on reality, not conjecture.

And that’s the reason why boxers dominate MMA and k-1, uh oh, wait…………

What do you think would happen if Mayweather tried to cower in the corner against BJ Penn or Sean Sherk? He’d get thrown to the ground and murdered. Just imagine what would happen to Floyd if BJ Penn got on top of him. Would you prefer to see him choked unconscious or have his arm snapped like a twig?
Dude come on. Kimbo Slice submitted Ray Mercer without breaking a sweat. 155 pound Genki Sudo submitted Butterbean easily. Get real.

I don’t think either one is superior. Both have their strengths and weaknesses when pitted against eachother. It seems that boxing fans are feeling threatened by the rise in popularity of MMA and the decline in popularity of boxing, so they always have to raise this issue.

When are MMA fans going to realize that professional boxing is superior? Hmm…when Boxing is superior to MMA everyone will realize it…but its not…..

Yawn.
Why do boxers have such amazing records? ‘Cause they’re padded. For every good win, these boxers KTFO like 7 ‘opponents’ or ‘cans’ as we call them in MMA. I could easily go 200-0 in boxing, if I only fought 12 year olds.
Yes, MMA fighters aren’t the best kickboxers, wrestlers, boxers, jiujitsu guys, etc. But they ARE the best fighters. Take the top guy from any of those disciplines, throw him in the octagon, and he’ll get demolished by a mid-tier UFC fighter.
An MMA fighter couldn’t do anything to Mayweather? Then why did Mayweather decline Dana White’s/Sean Sherk’s challenge? Not only did he decline, he immediately retracted his offensive comments that he’d made toward MMA. He knows darned well that he’d get humiliated in the octagon, and that’s why he did those things.
Mike Tyson will beat any MMA heavyweight? Trust you? Why? You don’t seem very trustworthy. I trust you as much as my ’special’ cousin who tries to play tag with me while holding a revved chainsaw. You haven’t said anything remotely intelligent, so there’s no reason that any of us would believe you on this one.
Tyson would get taken down and submitted by somebody. Although, he’s a boxer who I would give a fair chance in MMA, despite the fact that he’s one-dimensional. Where as, pretty much anyone else would be automatically screwed.
Anyway, the proof is in the pudding. And so far, most boxers who tried to come into MMA and K1 had no success. Those who did okay adapted.
The end.

AHAHAHA omg you make me laugh, this proves you knoe nothing about MMA or even martial arts for that matter
Boxers are good at close range fighting, ok good, MMA fighters are good at all aspects of fighting, stand up (which breaks down to close range and far range) kicks, trapping, grappling, takedowns, ground work, and what mike only has close range
And why does it even matter/?? MMA and boxing aren’t concrete, they are abstract, so how can any be superior to another??? Is there a superior language or number i should no about too? Tysons is a fkin monster anyway but put him against fedor he will die, cro cop he will be 50/50 Tyson isnt going to beat EVERY SINGLE MMA FIGHTER IN ONE TRY
he will lose sometimes, and win sometimes, how is that superior??and why do you think hes boxing?? hes not man enough to even go into MMA or even fight an MMA fighter for that matter

I agree (and I wrestled in highschool and took a break from boxing and fought MMA for 2 years) Boxing is like a plain with small hills in terms of fighting talent and popularity, there will be ups and downs but it will always be constant, MMA is like a mountain, a fad if you will its at its peak now and its already starting to level off and fade. Now there is no doubt mma revolutionized the way people think about fighting, but its nothing more than a flash in the pan. As for who would win in a fight, with equal skill in their respective sports,on his feet a boxer would win Id say, most fights on the street dont start at a distance where you can really kick effectivelly (other than stomping or purring) and if th boxer has good footwork you wont be able to kick his legs very effectively as for knees and elbows, they leave you very open to body shots and uppercuts, not to mention it is naive to think that a boxer doent know how to at least throw a straight knee or a round elbow(many cheat by looping round elbows into their hook) and grabbing and hitting is also a big cheat. If it went to the ground Id put my money on the mma guy but you have to realize not 90% of streetfights go to the ground, that was a fallacy early established in the UFC, where 90% of those fights went to the ground, those werent street fights, they were close but no cigar. Boxers definately have a really good chance of knocking out a MMArtist in a flurry of punches in a street fight. So I leave you with these videos
as for tyson hes washed up and has ben washed up since the mid 90s I dont know why people always tout him off as so great he was good when he was young and a egotystical ass outside of the ring, the worst representation of the sport ever

your sooooooo right!!! thats why Mayweather ran his polepuffer for months but when DanaWhite told him heres 6 figures and YOU pick your opponent he ran like a coward to the WWE!!!! boxing is a popularity contest,,and like the guy above me said,,who’s left in boxing?? no one,,put Tyson in with Q.Jackson or any of the top MMA guys and it wont go past the first round…fact….while i agree that a boxer could probly beat a MMA guy in boxing its not fair,,,you take all the MMA guys weapons away,,,but put a boxer in da octigone and its guna be a bloodbath,,and MMA fighters arent the ones runnin there mouths,,its the boxers tryin to get in the news because all the boxing fans left when you would watch a boxer get his but kicked for 12 rounds just to win a BS decision,,,Anderson Silva and RoyJonesJR are in talks right now for a boxing match so you can see what happens,,,at least he has the balls to try,,,no boxer is guna step in an MMA ring though,,,they will just go blablablaaa and back out
