What football position is my brother best suited for?

Matt S asked:

He has a good 4-5 years of football experience. He’s going to try out for high school.

He’s 17, 5′5, 215lbs, and can run fairly fast for his size. He may be short, but mind you, he is incredibly stocky and powerful. Having said that, he has a hard time carrying or catching the ball. 50% of the time he fumbles it for some reason.

He can bench around 255 or so max. He’s a very tough kid. I remember he once fought and beat a kid who was 6′3 and 210lbs.

He’s played all sorts of different position’s in the city leagues, so he wants to know what he should be.

One more thing, he’s VERY worried that the coach won’t look at him because he’s so short. Some coaches I know automatically cut kids if they are under a certain height. (Which is wrong.)

Jesus Christ, he must he such a tank. Fullback for sure…. if he can knock over incoming defenders, but he also has to be able to hold on the ball and run up the gut, which is why he may not be able to play fullback. If he always fumbles it, then he could be possibly D-End.

Well first of all does he know what position he was the best at? If so he should stick with that. But if he doesnt know then he should probably play fullback. It sounds like he can truck kids pretty good. But fumbling may be a problem because the few times a fullback does get the ball and if he fumbles ur pretty much screwed. I had a kid on my team this year and he was really small and could truck kids left and right. U actually have more of an advantage if u are small and big because u can tackle way easier and u can truck people alot. He should work on his ball carrying ability and tryout for Fullback.
