The MMA comparison between leagues.(UFC, Pride, Elite, WEC, etc)?

Chris P asked:

So I was watching WEC the other night, and they had a welterweight title fight, a re-run, of Carlos Condit vs. Brock Larson…where Condit won in the first round via armbar I think…My question is, how would all of you judge and compare a fighter like him (Condit: 22-4 record) against the current UFC welterweight champ GSP…Anything can happen in a fight…we all know this…but is the line between fighters like these comparable to college and pros? Majors and minors? Obviously fighters like Faber and Fihlo can hold their own, but im looking for opinions and back up theories on how you can compare a WEC champ, or Elite for that matter, to UFC or a pride champ…no right or wrong, just looking for good insight and possibly even a good fictitious matchup…a what if…

GSP is far superior to Carlos Condit. If the 5 UFC champs were to face-off against the 5 WEC Champs the UFC would easilly win 5-0. The best comparison for these two leagues is Majors to Minors. The UFC owns the WEC and sets it up this way. It is a developmental league. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Carlos Condit and Brian Stann get a call-up, however as they are talented enough to compete in the UFC.

The only two divisions worth watching in the WEC are Featherweight and Bantamweight because the UFC does not have these classes. Therefore, the WEC fighters in these classes are the best in the world. Miguel Torres and Urijah Faber of the WEC are likely in the Top 10 pound for pound fighter in the world.

Pride was bought out by the UFC a while ago and most of the best fighters from that organization are now in the UFC.

I disagree with your assessment that Paulo Fihlo can hold his own against the UFC’s best. I believe he is very overrated and did not look very good in his last fight in which he won by a controversial verbal tap-out. He has had injuries and personal problems over the last year and a half.

Currently the UFC is the biggest MMA promotion, and as such, they have most of the best athletes.

Condit is a good fighter, but GSP is superior.

Faber wouldn’t be able to do much in the UFC, he is a weight class lower that lightweight, he wouldn’t be able handle the bigger opponents (case and point Tyson Griffin)

Pride is no more, UFC bought it and dismantled it.

Other organizations like Elitexc, strikeforce, and so on have good fighters, but then again, UFC has most of the best ones.

    Yes Its Like Most Sports.

No Doubt Elite Is At The Bottom. No Names And Has Beens.
(No Offense To The Shamrocks) But Like Most Places Has Their Share Of Great Fighters, Cung Le, Gina Carano,Frank Shamrock,Kimbo Slice(Sorta), Krazy Horse Bennet.

WEC Is Next Up. Great Fighters. And Small Name Fighters.

UFC/Pride At the Top. Fantastic Famous Fighters.

    But All Of Them Have Things The Others Don’t;
    Elite Has Women Fights!
    WEC Has Bantam And Featherweights!
    UFC Has Famous Pride Fighters!

look out for DREAM too. This organization is owned by many of the former owners of PRIDE and their gaining momentum fast. They already have a deal with HDnet

UFC is currently on the top of the chain and is becoming mainstream. Pride is now owned by UFC and elite xc, and the others are just not as famous but still very good.
