Hts360 asked:

Alves is Huge and an Early Stoppage

Alves was huge in two ways. He looked like he was 190 just really big at the fight. Then he connected and finished Matt Hughes with a big knee. Referee Dan Miragliotta comes up big again in an early stoppage in the bout with Brandon Vera vs. Fabricio Werdum.

Quote from Vera- “There was 15 seconds left. Let me take my ass whooping and let’s go into the second round.”

So Vera was just waiting on for the next round and I doubt we will see a rematch of this fight.

Here are the results for UFC 85:

Matt Hughes vs. Thiago Alves Winner: Thiago Alves via TKO (Strikes) Round 2

Michael Bisping vs. Jason Day Winner: Michael Bisping via TKO (Strikes) Round 1

Brandon Vera vs. Fabricio Werdum Winner: Frabrico Werdum via TKO (Strikes) Round 1

Mike Swick vs. Marcus Davis Winner: Mike Swick via Unanimous Decision

Martin Kampmann vs. Jorge Rivera Winner: Martin Kampmann via submission (guillotine choke) in round one

Nate Marquardt vs. Thales Leites Winner: Thales Leites via Split Decision

Jason Lambert vs. Luis Arthur Cane Winner: Luis Arthur Cane via technical knockout (strikes) in round one

Roan Carneiro vs. Kevin Burns Winner: Kevin Burns via submission in round two

Thiago Tavares vs. Matt Wiman Winner: Matt Wiman via knockout in round two

Jess Liaudin vs. Paul Taylor Winner: Paul Taylor via split decision

Eddie Sanchez vs. Antoni Hardonk Winner: Antoni Hardonk via technical knockout (strikes) in round two

Marquardt not finding the luck in London

Quote of what he told to mmaweekly.com- “On a side note, our room was robbed last night and my computer, iPod, passport and several other items were stolen. That means we got robbed two days in a row here in London! HA :)

Miguel Torres Wants One More Fight This Year

Quote from Torres- “They still have a couple of guys out there. They have Tapia, Brian Bowles, but he’s still kind of new. I hope they give him a couple of fights before they put him in there with me, but he’s a pretty tough guy; the guy from Greg Jackson’s camp, I think his name is Damacio Page. They have Dominick Cruz, he’s fighting at 135 now, so there are some guys out there. They have some more Japanese guys. I have guys in front of me waiting. I think in a couple of years, I’ll move up in weight, but right now I’ll stay at 35 and try to take care of business…. I told them I would like to go as soon as December. I want to fight at least by December. I want to get at least one more this year. I like to stay active. I don’t like to stay out of the game too long. I want to be in there and take care of business.” I myself do not see Torres losing anytime soon. This guy is just sick and dangerous. He probably just doesn’t want to get the ring rust. But it was very interesting that Torres said that he might move up. My mouth just water thinking of Miguel Torres vs Urijah Faber. UFC Action Figures UFC and Jakks Pacific come together to bring UFC Action Figures. Some fighters who they will have will be Chuck Liddell, Anderson Silva, Michael Bisping, and Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira.

Mini quote from Jakks Pacific President and CEO- “The UFC is a perfect match for JAKKS, given our extensive expertise in developing and marketing collector driven sports action figures. UFC’s enormous and growing popularity amongst adults, coupled with the extensive roster of physically powerful star fighters, gives JAKKS a substantial base to work with, and should be a powerhouse combination for the line. Our objective is to give collectors an authentic UFC experience.”

Question is will these things sell like hotcakes? Tito in Elite XC? Maybe Quote from Jeremy Lappen who makes the matches for Elite XC on the topic of Tito Ortiz- “We’re interested. We’d love to have Tito Ortiz as part of our organization. Any organization out there would love to have Tito. Yeah, we’re talking. We’ll see what happens. The deal has to be good for both sides. He’d be a great addition to our organization. But there are a lot of people actively pursuing him.”

I also heard that if Tito moves up which he said that it could be a possibility he might even fight Kimbo Slice which would be a big hit if it was on one of the CBS cards. But we all know Tito will just go ground and pound on Kimbo which is his weakness which people saw when he fought James Thompson. Belfort vs Martin Official for the Affliction Card and IFL Shuts Down a Show

Vitor Belfort will duke it out with Terry Martin at 185. Another good fight on the loaded card. I’ll see Belfort finishing Martin pretty early but this is a solid fight.

On a sad side. The IFL will cancel it’s show on August 15 in New Jersey. They had said they canceled it because of Financial Situations. Right when they actually have good cards the ship is about to hit rock bottom and they are looking for a savior to save this shipwreck. While this ship is going down there letting the passengers (fighters) go fight for some other promotions to get away from the ring rust. Here is a little quote-

“The IFL is working with other top MMA organizations to keep its top fighters active in the sport and showcase their talent, while it pursues options that may enable it to continue its MMA operations. Several IFL athletes will compete on the Adrenaline MMA card in Chicago on June 14, and announcements with other promoters working with IFL athletes are expected in the near future.”

UFC Fight Night will enter Nebraska also the ATL

Omaha Nebraska that is where UFC Fight Night 14 will take place. On the card will be home town favorite Houston Alexander. Another fighter on the card will be TUF winner Nate Diaz who will be facing Josh Neer.

Also “The Iceman” Chuck Liddell will most likely be headling the UFC Card on September 6 in Atlanta, Georgia. Liddell was supposed to fight on the UFC 85 card against Maurico “Shogun” Rua but he injured his surgically repaired knee so he dropped out. Then was set to fight Rashad “Sugar” Evans but “The Iceman” had to put more than ice to heal up his torn hamstring so he had to drop out of that card. Hopefully Liddell can make a run for the title again.
