start training mma, or even better, divide it up even smaller and just focus on one aspect of mma (i.e. jiu jitsu, muay thai, boxing, savate) and then when you get a good solid base, start training in another style.

I think your friend is full of *%. Martial arts, regardless of the type, are not secretive. If they are secretive they are likley not teaching martial arts, but something else.

well I’d never ever train with some one who trains in secret. that is a good way to get hurt. not joking I have sparred with lots of guys who started like that and normally they suck bad. and even if he’s legit and then you want to mma later that is up to you and if he has a problem with it then he has a problem. your life is your life don’t lose out on it because some one else may be offended
