If you have ever watched the AHL, who is the best player you have ever seen in the league?
I watch the AHL a lot, and rarely pay attention to the NHL, so I have seen many good players. I have only watched for a couple of years, but I have seen some great players.
But the absolute best I have seen is Jason Krog. Last year, I had the pleasure of watching him every game on the Chicago Wolves (and by the way, 2008 Calder Cup Champions).
Biased? Maybe. But I think that the most points, most assists, and as a result, most points is a good achievement. And not to mention….he played in all 80 games, and only tallied up 30 penalty minutes, rarely getting in fights.
And never once got the chance to play in the NHL after leading the league in goals, assists, and points. And this year, for the Manitoba Moose, he is third in points.
I just think he deserves to come up to the NHL level at least once for these numbers.
That is why he is in my opinion the best player I have seen play in the AHL.
How about you?

See I’m the opposite. I follow the NHL likes its my bible, and only pay attention to the AHL when allowed. Because the NHL Network only shows an AHL game once every two weeks or so, I only get to see a game every two weeks or so.
I probably can’t tell you the best I’ve ever seen, since I don’t get to see all too often, but one AHLer I really like is Luca Caputi. Hope to watch him play full time with the Pittsburgh Penguins one day.
Keith Aucoin is pretty soild and I like what I’ve seen from Nathan Lawson.

In recent years I’ve had the pleasure to see some really solid hockey players play in the AHL:
Patrick Sharp, Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, Antero Nittymaki, Claude Giroux, Chris Kunitz, Joffrey Lupul, Ilya Bryzgalov, and Milan Michalek, to name but a few.
To see these guys play, they are clearly heads and shoulders above the rest and they’re never at that level long.
